Computer-aided machining (CAM) technology provider ModuleWorks has announced the latest update of its CAM components technology, ModuleWorks 2017.12. The new release brings a variety of new features to ModuleWorks 5-Axis Machining, 3-Axis Machining, 2-Axis Machining, Engraving, Deburring and more.

Some highlights of the new release include:

  • Dynamic collision avoidance: Collisions between the tool and machining surfaces can be avoided as ModuleWorks now takes into account the shape of the holder and arbor during a toolpath calculation.
  • Tool axis smoothing: Rotary and linear axis smoothing allow users to smooth the tool axis when machining, helping to eliminate jerky movements.

  • Turning: A new user interface for the turning component puts all turning strategies on the same page for quicker and easier setup.
  • Simulation: The machine simulator viewing area now offers four separate views to showcase the machine simulation from different orientations simultaneously.
  • Deburring: The new deburring feature can create a deburred edge with a user-defined constant depth or width.
  • Internal Grooving: With the new internal grooving feature, users can add grooves to inner surfaces.
  • Engraving start points: Users can now define where they want engraved contours to begin, with the toolpath starting at the closest distance from a user-defined starting point.
