Michigan Injection Molder Continues Long-Standing Green Effort

Mohr Engineering has been manufacturing plastic injected molded components since 1988. Since the company’s inception, environmental responsibility has been a priority for Mohr Engineering. The latest in Mohr’s green initiatives was the complete retrofit of all lighting in Mohr’s 24,000 sq. ft. facility.

The new lighting, HIF (high-intensity fluorescent) manufactured by Orion Energy Systems (www.oriones.com) of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, replaces the old lighting. In addition to cutting 50% of electrical costs for lighting in the plant, the area is much better lit. “Every single customer that has walked through our plant has said ‘Wow! What a difference it has made’”, said Mohr’s, plant manager. How have the employees reacted? “Feedback from employees has been nothing but positive, it has helped make the plant floor cooler and easier on the eyes.”

Mohr Engineering was green before green was cool. When the building was first built in 1988, the floor was six feet under grade, utilizing “mother nature’s insulation”. In addition, the construction was 2×10, with 10” of insulation behind a masonry wall. Radiant heat was installed in the production area for better heat distribution and lower dust. Along with an electrical system upgrade, Mohr has also just installed a super high efficiency furnace, for the front office. The furnace has an AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating of 95.

Mohr’s product itself is 100% recyclable, being plastic. Mohr Engineering supplies plastic injection molded parts for a variety of industries, including automotive, sports, electrical, defense and others.
