One of the features many engineers desire from 3D printers is color. The Zprinter machines, formerly made by Z Corp., now owned by 3D Systems, print in color through the use of colored inks. Mcor Technologies Ltd., joined the short list of companies with color 3D printers with its introduction of the Iris color 3D printer at this year’s RAPID show in Atlanta, GA.
The Mcor Iris uses ordinary A4 paper to make 3D objects. It delivers full 3D color prints with high quality color and fine detail. The machine prints photo-realistic 3D parts with the resolution of a high quality 2D color printer. In addition, parts made from this equipment are friendly to the ecology—just paper, binder, and color.
Said co-founder and CEO Dr. Conor MacCormack, “The Mcor Iris produced sharp, vibrant prints; printing onto a pure white media produces better color authenticity and reproduction when compared with other color 3D technologies.” You might think that paper material would only be suitable for form and fit applications, but they can be used for some function applications. The robust 3D printed objects have a smooth surface finish and are ready to handle without post-processing.
The Iris is as easy to use as the company’s first 3D printer, the Matrix. Target applications include engineering, education, architecture, GIS, and entertainment.
