MakerBot adds 3 PLA colors to 3D printing line

MakerBot is coming out with new PLA Filament colors. New this month are three new additions to the PLA Filament line-up, including: True Black, True Blue, and True Purple. These colors are fully stocked, with no lead-time on shipping and available now.

The three new colors join MakerBot’s existing seven PLA color range. MakerBot will be introducing other new colors later this year and is encouraging 3D printing enthusiasts to help decide upon the next new colors by voting via MakerBot’s blog at http://www.makerbot.com/blog.

“Ever since we introduced the MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer last fall, we have gotten so many requests for new PLA colors,” noted Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “We love PLA – it is a really great, consistent material. It performs well with minimal peeling, curling or shrinking, and it’s a renewable bio plastic made from corn so it actually smells good while you are printing. We are really excited to be able to offer these new colors and can’t wait to see the cool things people make with them.”

Pettis noted that True Black has been a big request, especially for those that use their MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer for prototyping and making replacement parts. “We had an engineer from Lockheed Martin come by that was on the James Webb Space Telescope program, and his number one request from us was to make black PLA. Well, now we have.”
