Boutique automaker Lucra Cars’ new L148 could rival Bugatti’s Veyron for World’s Fastest Auto.
In just a matter of months, American automaker Lucra Cars is set to launch its most powerful entry into the supercar market: the L148.
While it may not be a household name, Luke Richardson’s Lucra Cars has already made quite an impression on the supercar scene. Earlier this year, the boutique automaker debuted its first car, the LC470. With sweeping lines, and a lightweight, hand-built frame, the LC470 is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h (0-60mph) in 2.5 seconds and covering a quarter mile in 9.1 seconds.
Building off the knowledge gained in the development of the LC470, Lucra has pushed even its own design envelope in the creation of its L148.
Designed around an aerodynamic carbon fiber body, the L148 is framed by a tubular chromoly steel chassis. Sporting a 4.7 L LS7 V8 engine, the supercar’s drive is engaged by a Mercedes-built 7 speed transmission. According to Lucra, the L148 will be capable of producing nearly 700HP; however, some are skeptical of that claim given the 500HP benchmark associated with the LS7.
Regardless of this quibble, odds are that the fine-tuning and power of the L148 will at least best its predecessor’s already impressive marks.
While no specific price tag has been attached to the L148, rumors abound that the supercar will check in at around $250,000. If the car can compete with likes of Bugatti’s Veyron, then it might be worth the scratch. Moreover, Lucra Cars will have lived up to their own vision, to create cars that are “STREET LEGAL… but just barely”.
