LG Electronics is rethinking face masks by designing a new wearable air purifier that filters the air you breathe. The PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier will be introduced at this year’s IFA Berlin and aims to address the shortening supply of disposable masks, as well as the unreliability of homemade ones. This new technology will use two H13 HEPA filters, which can also be found in most of LG’s home air purifier products. According to the company, its latest Dual Fans and patented Respiratory Sensor technology for their home appliances also plays a significant role in the product’s development.

Extensive facial analysis was conducted to minimize air leakage around the nose and chin while creating a design that makes it comfortable for the user to wear even for hours. The mask will carry an 820m Ah battery with up to eight hours of functionality in low mode and two hours on high mode. It is also equipped with UV-LED lights capable of killing harmful germs. The device also comes with a unique case that serves as both hygienic storage in-between use, and as a charging case that also sends notifications via LG’s ThinQ mobile app when the filters need to be replaced. The app is available for both Android and iOS. On top of that, LG intended for the product to be fully recyclable.

The company shared that it was their advancements in air purification for their home products that encouraged them to seek solutions related to the COVID-19 virus.

“The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is an exciting addition to our growing lineup of products designed to deliver meaningful health and hygiene benefits,” says Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “At a time when consumers are seeking ways to make life safer and more convenient, it’s important that we’re able to offer solutions that add measurable value.”

The PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier will be unveiled at IFA Berlin 2020’s virtual exhibition which will run the whole month of September along with their other new product innovations. The device will be available for purchase in the fourth quarter in select markets. For more information, visit www.lg.com/exhibition.
