The summer 2022 release includes a cross-domain deep search for faster packaging design, improved sketch features and more.
For the second time this year, Siemens has released an updated version of its NX software. This latest addition aimed to provide support tools to enhance functions for improved time savings and better collaboration.
“This latest release brings enhancements to our users across the board, enabling them to work more intelligently between multidisciplinary teams, capture and reuse more knowledge and achieve that optimum design more efficiently than ever before,” Bob Haubrock, senior vice president, product engineering software, said in a press release. “Alongside brand-new functionality, our significant investments to core technologies, such as sketch and convergent modeling, will further improve the toolsets that our community of users relies on every day.”
For many users, searching for the perfect design took time. This release has a cross-domain deep search function that eliminates extra hassle. Whether in the engineering or manufacturing stage—or anywhere between—it allows users to search across all aspects of a product’s lifecycle to find the most relevant designs. This feature was added to help get the product to market faster. This function also includes an optional add-on that allows deep CAD searching.
The software’s sketch features also got a support-based makeover. This software version has a Sketch Solver, which eliminates steps to find a midpoint. It can support lines, arcs and some automatic symmetry. The improved Sketch Patterning tool makes modifying easier. Instead of making multiple aspect changes, users now only need to make one change and the software completes the other modifications. When working with a moving part, this upgrade has removed “over-sticky” conditions associated with curve endpoint modifications.
Based on user feedback, Siemens has modified Mechanism Mode. Now, users have free movement in a sketch and no longer have to lock curves to the axis. This upgrade may be especially important when trying to achieve quick 2D designs. Also related to curves is a new Draw Curve command and creation techniques. Users can make freehand-drawn curves by snapping to existing ones. From there, those sketches can more easily be enhanced with complex details that are automated.
Siemens NX’s Convergent Modeling has enhanced algorithmic modeling, making it easier and faster to navigate complex shapes and patterns. The software’s existing nodes have been updated for compatibility with convergent inputs and outputs. New nodes for specific tasks have been added, providing the ability to merge convergent faces or subdivide facets.
When changes are needed, everyone possibly affected by the change needs to be in the know. Via a new multi-user notification and Teamcenter’s Active workspace, every team member can stay connected regardless of physical location. Multiple users can simultaneously follow and track any design changes in real time. Users have the option to choose which notifications they want to receive. If changes are being made, the notification is highlighted in the graphics window.
