This position partners with Universities and other researchers to improve our bridges, tunnels and other structures. A day in the life:
  • Design, conduct and coordinate advanced transportation research.
  • Prepare research proposals and work plans detailing methods and goals of research projects.
  • Work with technical advisory groups to develop projects and review progress.
  • Analyze data to reach sound engineering conclusions.
  • Coordinate the development of contracts and agreements with external partners.
  • Monitor the progress and review ongoing research being performed under the contracts.
  • Coordinate work for all parties involved in the field evaluation of the projects.
  • Distribute research results and implementation to internal and external partners.
  • Keep up-to-date with current practices and findings from other agencies.
  • Conduct and oversee the evaluation of new products, construction and maintenance.
  • Hybrid work options available - work in an office environment 2 times a month with occasional limited overnight travel required.

Minimum qualifications:
A valid Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in Civil, Structural, or Transportation-related engineering.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.

  • Demonstrated experience writing academically, writing published research papers, generating technical reports, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing new engineering specification and standards.
  • Structural engineering with an emphasis on some aspect of transportation related design, construction or structural testing.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific research and experience applying the scientific method to engineering problems.
