Structural Engineering Department Manager Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the Engineering and Tech Teams while ensuring projects stay on a timeline, coordinate directly with clients and company leadership, mentor engineering staff, and ensure excellence throughout the company.
 
A Day in the Life of a Structural Engineering Department Manager:
  • Manage and report on the delivery of quality services per company philosophy and protocols in accordance with project timelines, budgets, and promised deliverables.
  • Approve and assist with Engineering and Tech schedules and performance
  • Assist with the development of partnerships with external companies
  • Work closely with Project Managers & liaise with external contractors
  • Oversee process changes and standards
  • Coach and mentor the engineering team
  • Prepare reports for leadership

Structural Engineering Department Manager Qualifications:
  • Required:  B.S. in Civil Engineering or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with a structural focus preferred 
  • Required:   Passed PE Exam
  • Preferred:  M.S. in Civil Engineering with a structural focus
  • 10+ years experience in Structural engineering
  • Leading teams, 5+ years required
  • Demonstrated ability in the design of concrete, steel, masonry, wood structures, and foundations
  • In-depth knowledge of structural design codes and standards including but not limited to IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7
  • Strong computer skills in structural analysis software programs (e.g., RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD, Pro, Enercal, TEKLA TEDDS, TEKLA Structural Designer)
  • Experience with REVIT Structure and/or AutoCAD
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Application of engineering principles including critical thinking, analysis, and innovative techniques
  • Ability to work independently with little direction and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Able to prioritize work according to deadlines and organizational initiatives to produce assigned outcomes 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
