Job Description:

Wolf Greenfield is seeking qualified and experienced engineers with strong technical backgrounds in electrical engineering, computer science, software, or physics to join our Electrical and Computer Technologies group in a Scientific Advisor capacity. In this role, candidates will actively apply technical expertise to support the firm and its client’s complex Intellectual Property (“IP”) needs while collaboratively working with attorneys and other team members.  This position will play a key role in important functions such as the preparation of patent applications and drafting of formal requests to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to grant a patent for an invention.  This position offers hands-on introduction to and training for becoming a Scientific Advisor, so prior IP or patent law experience is not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing technical disclosures - the detailed descriptions of new inventions that help determine whether the client should or can obtain a patent.
  • Participating in client and inventor interviews to define a clear understanding of the complexities surrounding new inventions.
  • Conducting research in patent databases and non-patent literature to ensure the firm’s practitioners have the necessary information to assess the legal viability and patentability of new inventions.
  • Utilizing obtained details and technical expertise to draft patent applications that describe the new inventions and provide support during the application process with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”).
  • Assisting firm practitioners in developing and drafting arguments in response to communications from the USPTO to secure patents.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field of study.
  • Two or more years of applicable industry experience in an engineering or related capacity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to present findings in a professional and organized manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with independence and effectively prioritize while managing multiple deadlines and work requests.
  • Sound judgment, maturity, and the ability to work with all levels within the firm’s organization.

Location

  • Office location flexible
  • Fully remote option

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 annually.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.  Wolf Greenfield offers a comprehensive benefits package.
