The Challenge
We are hiring an experienced transportation engineering specialist to join our Project Development team.
 
In this role, you will:
  • Directly support our Project Development Engineer in project design and plan development for roadway and bridge construction projects.
  • Assess field conditions as well as preliminary estimates to ensure construction feasibility and clarity or planning documents.
  • Perform field surveying.
  • Serve as a survey party lead.
  • Review survey work done by others.
  • Perform preliminary project estimates.
  • Assist with proposal information and assembly.
 
What You Bring
  • An excellent understanding of all phases of transportation construction, from initial utility relocation and right of way processes through actual construction and project completion.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and drafting applications.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to perform, math functions (such as algebra, geometry and trigonometry) to project construction, surveying, and estimating.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and procedures.
  • Experience taking notes, collecting field data, and preparing routine reports.
  • Fitness to work in a variety of conditions, including office and outdoor work, and in extreme weather.
  • Ability to work among construction site hazards, such as uneven terrain, working at heights, and in the vicinity of heavy equipment, and highway traffic.
  • Strong working knowledge of NCDOT policies and procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Safety toe shoes.
 
Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related discipline, and
  • 6+ years progressive technician experience; or
      
  • High School/GED Diploma, and
  • 8+ years progressive technician experience; or
      
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
