The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our Southern Ave Engineering team as a lead project inspector serving both Cumberland and Harnett counties.
 
In this role, you will:
  • Be a lead project inspector conducting independent complex inspections of structure and roadway items for project construction.
  • Review safety- and environmental-related items.
  • Supervise junior inspectors performing routine and moderately complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
 
What You Bring
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge and skills using computers, software, and math functions.
  • Experience performing inspections, sampling, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
  • Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
  • Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgement to plan interpretations.
  • Communications skills to establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
  • Agility to traverse rough terrain in evaluation of highway construction.
  • You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
  • Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
  • Attention to detail to accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.
  • Ability to safely drive a State vehicle.
  • Safety toe shoes.
 
Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
  • 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
