The Department of Public Utilities is searching for an Engineer II to join a dedicated team of engineers in supporting the review of development projects. A successful Engineer II candidate must be able to make sound engineering decisions based on engineering design standards, and local, state & federal laws; clearly communicate with developers, engineers and contractors to support the execution of private development projects; develop and maintain professional relationships with the public and various City departments.

As an Engineer II, your typical duties would include:

 

  • Review of construction plans and calculations associated with water and sanitary sewer systems
  • Preparation of technical review letters to developers, engineers and the community
  • Providing technical assistance to the construction inspectors on Public Utilities related engineering issues
  • Performance of other duties as assigned in support of the Department

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS -

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
