The Challenge
We are looking for 4 experienced transportation worker IV's to join our Wake County Maintenance team.
In this role you will:
Perform a wide range of maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside features.
Serve as the lead worker on a highway maintenance crew.
Install traffic & erosion control devices.
Clear rights of way.
Perform roadway grading.
Machine unpaved roads.
Conduct pavement repair, pipe installation or other drainage tasks.
Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks.
Perform emergency response including traffic accident clean-up, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies as they occur.
Operate various equipment including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tandem dump trucks, front end loaders, tractor trailers, motor graders, rollers, and other heavy equipment as needed.
What You Bring
Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety & NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices.
Experience in 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others in equipment operations and direct work crew daily activities.
Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
Experience operating 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, crack sealing machine, track excavator, skid steer, or sweeper.
Working knowledge of the principles involved in the operation and use of construction equipment.
Ability to perform assigned tasks and to follow verbal and written instructions.
Strength to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
Agility to climb, bend, and traverse steep and uneven terrain and work in extreme temperature conditions.
Ability to get a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (If you don't have it, STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
Safety toe shoes.
Notes
You will be subject to emergency call backs and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
We may require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
A pre-employment drug testing is required, and we will do a background check of your employers for the past 3 years for controlled substances/alcohol testing.
Education & Experience
High school/GED diploma, and
6+ years of relevant experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
