Veeco has an opening in Saint Paul, MN, for a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to participate in the delivery of New Product Development (NPD), Engineer-To-Order (ETO), and Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) work for compound semiconductor capital equipment. The role supports the delivery of custom and configured OEM capital equipment to the semiconductor industry. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design and troubleshooting of low and medium voltage AC/DC distribution, motion control and robotics, specification and incorporation of OEM power supplies and controllers, and many other areas of design.

 Responsibilities:

  • Executes engineering projects using Veeco product life cycle process to develop engineering design specifications (EDS), scopes of work (SOW), and project plans.
  • Participates in new product design, upgrade, obsolescence, and sustaining development activities utilizing CAD tools, including engineering drawing creation and changes, as well as BOM and ECN/ECO creation.
  • Organizes and participates in design reviews of machine improvements and new designs, including FMEA and Risk Analysis.
  • Performs Product Platform Planning and Architecting and updates documentation per planning.
  • Develops I/O maps, interlock strategies, and identifies component requirements for software developers.
  • Designs for control systems, including creation of system and subsystem-level schematics.
  • Facilitates functional handoffs between controls and both mechanical design and SW implementation.
  • Develops and debugs PLC and HMI code, PID controller configuration, as well as validation testing.
  • Helps define design specifications based on customer requirements.
  • Integration, design, and test of motion control system hardware and software.
  • Evaluation of designs to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and then develops partnerships with Technology team for R&D growth in specific technology and capability areas.
  • Supports Production and Field Service through hands-on and remote troubleshooting of systems.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites and/or supplier facilities on an as-needed basis may be required.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience is required. Direct commercial experience working in semiconductor capital equipment, or a similar technical field, is a plus. Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD design tools is highly preferred, as is experience using SAP or other PDM systems.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Capability to create, read, and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
  • PLC programming experience (Beckhoff, Wago PLC preferred). Knowledge of IEC 61131-3 PLC programming, including structured text is a plus.
  • Familiarity with PID loop control.
  • Automation/Robotics and servo motor control experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience with AC power distribution and panel layout design is a plus.
  • Experience with interface/control of motors, actuators, and sensors.
  • Experience with automation in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience in designing equipment used in a cleanroom environment is a plus.
  • Familiar with National Electric Code (NEC) and Lockout/Tagout requirements. Familiar with safety/regulatory compliance standards, such as NFPA 79, UL and CE certifications.
  • Working capability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of communications protocols such as Ethernet TCP/IP, Modbus TCP is a plus.
  • Experience developing OEM capital equipment within semiconductor industry is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a cross-functional team.
  • Communicates effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including MS Project or similar.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

 

The expected salary range for this position is $90,217.00 - $114,275.50 + bonus + benefits. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
