These position are senior to advanced level engineering positions in the inspection, maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement of major/complex/operational bridges and other bridges and transportation related structures for the Bureau of Structures – Inspection and Maintenance Unit B located in the Southeast Regional office in Waukesha. The engineering responsibilities may require continually high-level contacts with public and private officials and engineers/engineering consultants on highly sensitive and complex engineering reviews.  These positions make independent decisions and perform work in response to program needs with little or no review of the work by the supervisor.  

These positions conduct bridge inspections; prepare bridge inspection reports; scope bridge rehabilitation work for let projects; and recommend maintenance needs and repairs for preventative maintenance and emergency repair due to accidents. These positions may work directly with county staff and private contractor forces to ensure structure maintenance and repairs are performed satisfactorily.

The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $81,203 to $99,424, plus excellent benefits.

The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $94,494 to $106,808, plus excellent benefits. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License.

A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Travel Requirement
This position requires frequent travel on an independent basis for specific job duties, meetings, and/or trainings.

Bridge Inspector Requirement

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas.  Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States. WisDOT is not an E-verify employer.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Minimum requirement: Upon application, candidate must have graduated from an ABET accredited program with a 4-year degree (or master's or PhD) in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field, OR possess an Engineer in Training (EIT) credential, OR possess a Professional Engineer (PE) credential, OR have documentation from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services that deems the individual a professional engineer and qualified to engage in professional engineering practices.
