Salary is Dependent on Qualification (DOQ). Candidates within the Louisiana and Alabama areas are highly preferred.

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer provides central integration engineering support for DMS-supported products and systems. This position works alongside the project manager to oversee the planning and coordination of technical engineering scope to ensure project success within budget and schedule objectives. Duties include upholding project standards per compliance regulations, providing technical guidance for the development and implementation of DMS products on the subject platform, developing project implementation plans, analyzing and finding paths to implement specifications as called for during the phases of a project, and providing technical resolution of unforeseen issues that arise during the life of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide central integration engineering support for DMS-supported products and systems / Wärtsilä product designs to customers in technical areas of responsibility.
  • Frequent travel to the local project site to monitor project progress, participate in customer/stakeholder negotiations and recurring meetings when needed, and maintain good customer/stakeholder relationships.
  • Manage work under own responsibility area according to contract requirements.
  • Plan the works with the total costs, schedule, and customer needs in focus.
  • Manage project activities according to contract/requirements together with external vendors and internal team members.
  • Follow-up and report quality, use of resources, costs, schedule, and scope of the area of responsibility.
  • Identify, mitigate, monitor, and report risks in your own area of responsibility.
  • Provide lessons learned initiatives for developing issues in own area of responsibility.
  • Make use of business engineering processes to ensure on-time delivery and correct quality of output.
  • Make use of engineering analysis/design tools to increase product knowledge and develop DMS in-house capabilities supporting product support and engineering.
  • Maintain compliance with all ISO standards (9001 / 14001 / 18001)
  • Primary technical interface between DMS and affiliates
  • Support DMS Engineering Technical Content: Validation / Checking and Approval for Release of technical content, per area of responsibility and as needed.
  • Assist in Technical Training, including product training and product awareness.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining of tools and methods in your own area of responsibility.
  • Specify and initiate purchases in area responsibility when required.
  • Approve for release to customer contract required deliverables within the area of responsibility per Engineering department and process guides.
  • Approve and sign off on physical technical outputs, including fabricated non-conforming material for use and outsourced physical testing, sign-off deck plate decisions/changes within the technical area of responsibility.
  • Check the work of Engineers / Draftsman either at DMS or one of its Wartsila affiliated foreign entities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skills:

  • Possess sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with personal computers and related software applications (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in reviewing procedures.
  • Ability to read technical specifications, drawings, and generate drawings.
  • Experience in Technical Writing.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) rules preferred.

 

Requirements:

  • Ability to climb shipboard ladders/board MSC, Navy Vessels, and other vessels.
  • Ability to go to the field for specific tasks requiring technical oversight or engagement.
  • Must be able, and willing, to travel within the Continental U.S. and Worldwide, with notice.
  • Must possess a valid US Passport.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD clearance

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent required
  • Six (6) or more years of industry experience with a focus on: Ship systems, Propulsion systems, and Shaft-line Equipment Certifications
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) Preferred
