Town Engineer (Civil Service Transfer or Provisional*)
The Town of Webster is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to be responsible for directing the Town Engineering Department, and for providing professional engineering advice to town officials.  The work requires considerable exercise of independent judgment especially as it relates to technical engineering issues and the implementation of town public works projects.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Town Supervisor or other higher-level staff members.  Direct supervision is exercised over a staff of technical and professional employees. Does related work as required.
 

*Provisional candidates must meet the minimum requirements established by Civil Service, sit for the next examination for the position and be reachable on the resultant civil service list. 
 

Typical Duties: (other duties as may be assigned)

• Coordinates construction projects between highway, sewer and community development departments;
• Reviews plans for new developments; Inspects work in process for conformance with plans and specifications;
• Confers with engineering personnel, contractors or consultants on public work projects; meets with town officials and town residents to discuss proposed projects;
• Trains and manages a subordinate staff;
• Analyzes the environmental impact of public works’ projects on air and water quality and on noise level;
• Makes preliminary and final estimates on engineering construction; Prepares technical reports and analysis of engineering projects;
• Coordinates town facility needs, including maintenance, security and tree removal;

Minimum Qualifications:  

Possession of a New York State Professional Engineers License, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as a civil, environmental, or sustainability engineer involved in municipal public works projects, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. 

Special Requirements:

• Successful candidate will have to take the next holding of the Town Engineer civil service examination and be reachable, or otherwise demonstrate eligibility for transfer or reinstatement under Civil Service Rules. 
• Applicants will be subject to a pre-employment background check, driver license check, and drug testing.
• Possession of a valid New York State license to operate a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.
