Position Summary

This position functions as the lead for local program structures activities within the Bureau of Structures (BOS). The primary function of this position is to facilitate the inclusion of structures asset management recommendations into improvement projects. This position will work most closely with: BOS asset management staff, rating staff, and inspection and maintenance engineers to understand and refine the recommendations for structures work that are developed using BOS asset management tools; Regional local program staff to discuss and coordinate structures improvement recommendations and programs; Local structure owners to guide and assist them in compliance with inspection requirements, rating, and structure asset management; Division of Transportation Investment Management (DTIM) staff to implement funding for local program structures work.

Some key work activities for the position include: Working with asset management staff to provide recommended work actions for local program structures, working with inspection staff and local owners to ensure that inspection data for local system bridges is complete and in compliance with federal requirements, working with DTIM to promote structures asset management recommendations for the local program, working with local movable bridge owners to manage their bridges and work with other local owners to better manage their assets, and working with rating staff to complete bridge ratings for local structures.

Salary Information

The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $81,203 to $99,424 plus excellent benefits.

The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $94,494 to $106,808, plus excellent benefits.

A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details
Wisconsin residency is required for project positions.

The project/permanent position has been authorized until May 2026. Project/permanent positions are eligible for all benefits (including paid time off) as well as civil service status.  After successful completion of the 12 month probationary period (if applicable), employees in these positions will attain permanent status and will be eligible to transfer to other permanent positions similar to other permanent employees in state service. This allows employees to be considered for other similar positions when the project position approaches its expiration date.

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas.  Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications
Minimum requirement: Upon hire, candidate must have graduated, or will be graduating by December 2023, from an ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field, OR possess an Engineer in Training (EIT) credential, OR possess a Professional Engineer (PE) credential.

A minimally qualified candidate will also have at least 3.5 years of professional experience post-graduation in design, construction, or maintenance of transportation structures (structures are defined as bridges, culverts, sound walls, retaining walls or sign bridges).

In addition to the above:

To be eligible at the Advanced level, candidates must have a valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
