The Traffic Engineering Group Manager is responsible for the administration and management of the Traffic Engineering Design Group in providing on-time project delivery and excellent, customer focused, traffic design service to our construction and maintenance groups.

Job Duties:

  • Leads, manages, and actively supports the Performance Based Practical Design (PBPD) approach in traffic design and deliver the 5-year transportation program on-time and in collaboration with a diverse team with support from the Deputy State Engineer for Design
  • Leads by coaching and developing employees, including continuous improvement practices and principles
  • Leads and manages the investigation of new technology, tools, and procedures. This includes and is not limited to the Traffic Design's support and participation in the department's digital delivery initiative
  • Leads, responds to, and skillfully resolves issues through inquiries from others related to design, construction and maintenance related to Traffic Engineering
  • Professionally represent ADOT and testify in traffic related litigation areas upon request
  • Leads, manages, and implements policies, guidelines, procedures, and/or administrative directives. Keep traffic engineering reference documents current, including but not limited to revisions that may be needed in the adoption of new versions of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and take the lead for this effort while positively collaborating with other areas or Divisions as necessary
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives through Arizona Management System. Participates in various team-based formal and informal efforts to make ADOT/IDO more effective and efficient
  • Manages and monitors Group budget expenditures and plan for future needs. Negotiate and execute agreements and or contracts.

Selective Preference(s):

Registered Professional Engineer with the State of Arizona or proof of eligibility for reciprocity.

Experience with traffic engineering design, construction, and maintenance.

15+ years of related experience demonstrating progression of increasing leadership responsibilities.

Employment Requirements:

Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona or eligible for reciprocity is required.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field is required.

Five (5) to 10 years’ experience in traffic engineering with supervisory experience is required.

A valid state Driver's license with an acceptable 39 month driving history is required.
