Position Summary

Compass Technology Group is a woman and veteran owned engineering small business focused on developing innovative electromagnetic measurement devices. We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team.  We embrace a team-based problem-solving approach that results in a creative environment with a continuous exchange of new ideas and learning.

The Quality Engineer at CTG is a high-level individual contributor role and takes ownership for leading the organization to AS9100 certification and ongoing Quality compliance for Manufacturing to maintain best in class services and devices for our customers. The successful candidate should have attention to detail, critical thinking / problem solving abilities, and excellent communication skills. Past experience should include driving initiatives towards regulatory compliance by cross-functional communication and collaboration with all levels of the organization. This candidate must be accustomed to independent research, collaborative efforts with external consultants and translating industry/regulatory requirements in manufacturing for AS9100 and ISO 9001 certification as it applies to a small business.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Drive and own the Quality Management System and initiatives for the organization touching on all Operations activities
  • Orchestrate actions through the department leads towards the attainment of ISO 9001 and AS9100 certifications.
  • Develop and implement effective quality control plans and procedures to ensure product and process compliance with established specifications and requirements
  • Conduct regular product inspections, audits, and tests to identify quality issues or deviations from standards
  • Analyze data and utilize statistical methods to identify trends, deviations, or areas of improvement within the manufacturing process
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, engineering, and production, to identify root causes of quality issues and develop effective corrective actions
  • Perform risk assessments and participate in failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, such as inspection reports, quality manuals, and control charts
  • Assist in the development and execution of validation protocols, including equipment qualification, process validation, and software validation
  • Provide training and support to employees on quality control procedures and processes
  • Monitor compliance with quality standards, regulations, and certifications, such as ISO 9001 and AS9100
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and improve overall customer satisfaction
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in quality engineering practices
  • Oversee team of 2-4 technicians in lab to QA incoming items, devices being sent to customers, in-house contract measurements and lab set up for research engineers.

Required Competencies and Skills

  • Proven experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing or related industry
  • Strong knowledge of quality control principles, methodologies, statistical analysis, and process validation
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and standards, such as ISO 9001, FDA regulations, and other industry-specific quality systems
  • Proficient in quality tools and techniques, such as root cause analysis, FMEA, control charts, and statistical process control
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in using quality management software and tools
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies and certification is advantageous
     

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering) or related field
  • Minimum 5+ years experience Mid-level or Operations level experience.  Small business environment preferred. 30-100 employees. Including managing others and driving change management initiative
  • MS Office including Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook a must
  • Teams, Sharepoint, Jira, Confluence (highly preferred)

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

 

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Work in a business office space that includes a lab and production environment
  • Adhere to all saftey and regulatory protocols
