Job Description:

OUC - The Reliable Onean industry leader and the second largest municipal utility in Florida committed to serving the community and the environment, is presently seeking a Chilled Water Engineered Solutions Manager to join the Chilled Water division.

We are looking for an experienced Engineer with a passion for sales to create and recommend strategies to increase the recognition of Chilled Water Services in Central Florida. 

In this role, you will be responsible in collaboration with department leadership for developing and implementing long-term strategic goals, identifying new business opportunities, negotiating Chilled Water service agreements, managing all aspects of Chilled Water capital projects, developing and implementing strategies to expand Chilled Water market position, and achieving financial growth and customer base.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university; Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or Engineering Management (preferred);
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in HVAC products, systems and controls applications including the design and construction of large chilled water plants and distribution systems;
  • Above to include experience in technical sales developing prospects and new business opportunities, negotiating contracts and expanding book of business, in the HVAC or District Energy or related industries;
  • Above experience to include three (3) years of experience supervising and developing a team of direct reports (required); In lieu of formal supervisory experience, managing project teams, budgets, leadership training may be substituted.
  • Ability to negotiate and draft chilled water service agreements as well as construction contracts;
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of chilled water systems
  • Professional Engineer license, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional or Certified Energy Manager (preferred)

Job Purpose:     

In collaboration with department leadership, develops and implements long-term strategic goals; identifies new business opportunities; negotiates Chilled Water service agreements with customers, and design and construction contracts with builders. Manages all aspects of Chilled Water capital projects including technical and financial requirements for public and private customers. Develops and implements strategies to expand Chilled Water market position and achieve financial growth and customer base.

Primary Functions:         

  • Create and recommend strategies to increase the recognition of Chilled Water Services in Central Florida;
  • Develop conceptual engineered solutions for new construction and existing buildings/facilities and translate and incorporate these complex engineered solutions into budgets, sales, scope of work and contractual commitments;
  • Identify prospects, make initial contact and foster new relationships in a consultative manner;
  • Analyze potential and existing markets in order to identify business opportunities in conjunction with Sales & Sustainability and Contract, Finance & Project Management;
  • Qualify customers and limit risk through legal, financial and technical means. Ensure customer, contractual and regulatory requirements are met;
  • Build and manage influential relationships with manufacturers, contractors, suppliers and customers. Retain and grow customer base while working to meet annual revenue;
  • Negotiate service agreements in collaboration with the Director, VP, Corporate Analytics & Planning and Legal;
  • Advise Director, VP and COO through executive project reviews and provides insight and recommendations based on financial sensitive evaluations;
  • Develop pricing strategies and proposals in collaboration with the Director, Corporate Analytics & Planning, Chilled Water Engineering and Operations & Maintenance;
  • Complete data analytics to assess and communicate potential pricing scenarios impacting the Company’s internal rate of return;
  • Develop assessment metrics for evaluating contracts and sales prospects. Create strategies for expanding customer base by leveraging metrics and assessing ROI of leads;
  • Collaborate with the Director and Corporate Analytics & Planning in the development of sales forecast;
  • Present to and consult with management on business trends pertaining new services and products.
  • Develop the scope of capital projects and participate in the RFP process;
  • Lead a team of staff engineers, consulting firms, and builders and provide proactive, clear and timely communication to team members;
  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends;
  • Perform other duties.

Technical Requirements:             

  • Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following:
    • Formal presentation skills;
    • Strong written and oral communication skills;
    • Technical/consultative sales and contract negotiations;
    • Ability to work directly with high-level individuals within large organizations;
    • Ability to develop complex engineered solutions for new construction and existing facilities;
    • Chilled Water production, distribution, maintenance and operations;
    • Financial analysis of capital investments.
  • Familiarity with all, but not limited to, the following:
    • ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) Standards;
    • Mechanical and electrical schedules; and riser Diagrams;
    • Application of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) requirements;
    • Construction documents prepared by outside engineering firms;
    • Shop Drawings prepared by equipment vendors/suppliers;
    • Software Application (similar to PSERM, CC&B, AutoCAD, ePets, Arc-Reader, ARM360);
    • Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices, and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances, and laws.
  • Understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records;
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

Working Conditions:      

This job may be exposed wet, humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and hot (non-weather), and vibration. This job may occasionally work in high, precarious places and work in confined spaces.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, repetitive motions, reaching over head, climbing (i.e. stairs, hills, ladders, etc.), and may lift up to twenty (20) pounds. This job requires speaking and hearing, typing, writing, detailed inspection, and may drive a company vehicle.
