(Baird) provides professional engineering and technical services related to the design of coastal structures and facilities that interact with the world’s oceans, lakes, and rivers. We are currently looking for a forward-thinking, creative, and experienced Mid-level Marine/Coastal Engineer with a strong background in engineering analysis and design of coastal and marine structures.

 

Responsibilities & Duties:

- Develop/evaluate required technical documents and participate in client meetings.
- Coordinate with technical staff to utilize coastal resources effectively.
-Write and coordinate winning proposals, attract new clients, and retain current clients as required.
- Analysis and design of marine and coastal structures, particularly on the Great Lakes and northern Canada. This will require a strong technical background in marine and coastal design.
- Project management including planning and monitoring of project scope, budgets, deliverables, schedule.
- Construction services including construction management and construction observation.
- Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

-Master’s degree in Civil, Coastal, Marine Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- A minimum of ten years of coastal engineering experience in a consulting or contractor role with a specific emphasis on analysis and design.
- Strong interest in analysis, design, and implementation related to one or, preferably, more of:
Coastal – shore protection, flood risk reduction infrastructure (levees, gates, walls), living shorelines, restoration.
Port Infrastructure –port planning, piers, dolphins, bulkheads, heavy lift structures, pipelines, multi and single-buoy moorings, ship loading equipment, and procurement thereof.
Ecosystem Restoration – beach restoration, marsh restoration, reefs, adaptive structures.
Navigation & Dredging – design of channels and turning basins, analysis of vessel traffic and hazards, dredging, dredged material management.
Metocean – modeling and data analysis for waves, tides, currents, storm surges, and meteorological conditions.
Ocean Renewable Energy – nearshore and offshore wind, wave, or current generator and support infrastructure foundations, port logistics, procurement.
- Experience with the above-mentioned marine or coastal engineering elements.
- A minimum of seven years’ experience managing projects.
- Experience developing construction documents including drawing sets, specifications, cost estimating. Geotechnical experience not required but an asset.
- Willingness to travel for domestic and international projects. Occasional assignments, particularly construction supervision, could require extended travel for several weeks at a time.

 

Preferable Qualifications:

- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Technical experience focused on the analysis and design of coastal protection and defense structures, coastal erosion, and land stabilization, metocean, dredging and reclamation, coastal planning, and management.
- Construction management experience related to the above-mentioned marine or coastal projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management skills.
