TRANSPORTATION CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN 4

DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION

Job Summary:

Serves as a lead technician, under the general supervision of a Resident Engineer, Project Supervisor or Lab Supervisor, performing highly technical activities on highway construction projects, including highway, electrical and landscape construction inspection, area lab materials quality control, field office materials coordination and construction administration. Inspects, tests and documents complex construction items, such as highways, FMS, lighting, landscaping and irrigation, material testing and construction administration. Primary contract for contractors, consultants and ADOT employees on minor projects or segments of a major project. Resolves issues of conflict with contractors. May initiate change orders or force accounts. Reviews completed work of other employees and provides training.

Job Duties:
  • Review construction plans, specifications and documentation to ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements. Review technical problems, develop procedures and recommendations for resolution of issues. Review, verify and approve calculations, test results and documentation. Review and verify contractor pay quantities before downloading into CPE program.
  • Review and/or prepare contract documents related to force accounts, change orders, supplemental agreements and financial documentation. Prepare inspection, documentation and testing for construction documentation projects.
  • Prepare project related documentation to ensure conformance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards.
  • Provide training, coaching and guidance to employees.
  • Consult with contractor, local agencies and citizens to develop solutions to resolve issues at the lowest level in the field. prepare recommendations for project management.
Selective Preference(s):

Two years of journey-level experience as a senior-level technician.
A bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related curriculum may substitute for the required experience.

Any combination of training and experience that meets the knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent upon passing a physical examination. Valid Arizona Driver's License.

ACI & ATTI certifications

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). If considered, PART 2 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment allows a record review and reference check. The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.11 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR and record review/ reference check.
