Position Summary:
The Test Engineer Supervisor is responsible for all operational aspects of the Research Test Center (RTC) including coordination, oversight, and set-up of all testing events from start to finish. The preparation of cost estimates, scheduling of the event, requirements identification and coordination of personnel, organizing facility and resource allocation, and data processing. This position correspondingly ensures that actual costs are consistent with cost estimates provided to clients. The Test Engineer Supervisor is the testing facilitator for BRC Consultants, Engineers, Executive Assistants and any other staff requiring RTC resources. The Test Engineer Supervisor effectively operates within and in support of BRC’s business operations and corporate structure as well as directly assisting and leading technical job functions such as metal work, fabrication, test set-up, and materials disposal.
 
Essential Functions:
• Responsible for all day-to-day activities of the RTC staff and facilities including determining and facilitating changing priorities.
• Provides supervisory oversight and staff assistance in the planning, performance, and administration of the RTC.
• Coordinates the scheduling and successful completion of all events at the RTC including meetings, demonstrations, testing, research, and the preparation of exhibits.
• Demonstrates:
o Knowledge of Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs) and their sensors such as accelerometers and loadcells.
o Ability to use DTS data acquisition systems to collect data.
o Knowledge of National Instruments LabView and Diadem software to process data.
o Understanding of wiring diagrams and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Coordinates and communicates with internal clients at all levels of the company, as well as external agencies or clients.
• Prepares cost estimates for testing, demonstrations, and exhibit creation, to be sent to the clients by appropriate BRC personnel, for approval.
• Proactively follows up with BRC appropriate personnel regarding cost estimates submitted to clients to determine if approval has been provided.
• Creates pipeline of work by promoting testing capabilities, events and results to internal and external clients
• Identifies, recommends, and manages the initiation of new services within the RTC.
• Responsible for the establishment and implementation of RTC standard operating policies, procedures and general administrative policies.
• Oversight of testing team including directing work assignments and schedules across multiple areas of responsibility.
• Ensures electrical and machinery safety standards are adhered to.
• Ensures staff compliance with corporate training, policies, procedures and standards of behavior.
• Oversees and assists Mechanical Technician/Model Maker III in matters of building maintenance.
 
Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Five years of experience in relevant position(s) can be substituted for education.
• Applied work experience with NI technologies, specifically LabVIEW and DIAdem to include programming experience.
• Experience in the application of sensors and instrumentation.
• Demonstrates good technical writing and communication skills.
 
Preferred
• Electrical Engineer
• Two to five years of experience in logistics and/or personnel management in a testing, shop or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in fabrication/assembly is required. Additional experience with model-making, theatre set/prop construction and knowledge of commercial coatings is desirable.
Certifications/Licenses:
• Forklift and scissor lift certification is preferred.
• Professional Engineer designation is preferred.
• Drone certification is preferred.

• Must have the ability to think through complex situations while under pressure and make effective decisions regarding priorities and how/when RTC resources are allocated.
• Exercises good judgment regarding all aspects of daily RTC operations and interactions.

• Ability to motivate and guide individuals into effective and cohesive members of a team unit.
• Able to communicate concepts, as well as procedures, clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and non-technical related material related to testing and administrative functions of the position.
• Effectively communicate and motivate up, down and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.
• Interacts with internal staff, external clients, and vendors in a consistently professional manner, facilitating strong working relationships.
Math Ability:
• Able to use basic mathematics to generate cost estimates, budgets, materials and project pricing.
• Able to apply mathematics, including, but not limited to geometry calculation, for the fabrication and use of wide variety of measuring devices including tape measures, levelers, micrometers and calipers.
Computer Skills:
• Programming skills relevant to LabVIEW and DIAdem systems.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, specifically Word and Outlook.
• The ability to adapt to and to employ directly or indirectly, position-specific or department-wide, new software and modalities to improve RTC functions and administration in an efficient manner is also required.

Physical Demands:
Physical demands include being regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate equipment and tools. May be occasionally required to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus and to distinguish colors. While performing duties the employee may be subjected to the risk of electrical shock, potentially hazardous gasses and loud noise. Safety equipment and training will be provided.
