Work as a Senior Resident Engineer on highway construction projects in the Southwest District. Work on the development and finals of unit construction projects. Work on the development and training of employees. Manage construction projects in the Southwest District. Assist with the management and development of the construction budget. Be familiar with environmental requirements and see that the mitigation measures are implemented on construction projects.

Must be able to travel to and oversee construction sites Monday through Friday depending on the contractor's work schedule. Must be available 24/7 for emergency calls.

Job Duties:
  • Provide engineering and technical direction for the administration of multiple, highly complex construction contracts to ensure work is performed in a manner that provides a functional, durable project that meets design intent at a reasonable cost.
  • Coordinate construction activities with federal, state, local and private entities to assure conflict are minimized and the public is well served. Implement and practice the principles of partnering.
  • Initiate and monitor training of units personnel to assure competent, effective and motivated. Work force is available and monitor safety work process to assure risk to employees (includes contractor employees) and public is minimized.
  • Developmental duties of providing input on project scopes, representing the district in project development meeting and providing constructability review for 30, 60, 95, and 100 percent plans development.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and supervision of subordinate personnel to enhance the quality of the product, service to the customer and assure compliance with all applicable plans, specifications rules and requirements.
  • Administrative duties; develop and monitor construction budget. Including personnel management, personnel evaluations, discipline, fire, coach and guidance of subordinate personnel relating to departments quality initiative and discipline in accordance to progressive discipline policy.
  • Provide direction and guidance to resolve critical issues and expedite issue resolution. Coordinate activities with ADOT offices, and answer questions from contractors and the general public regarding technical details. Engage in bid package process improvements and provide guidance in performing cost estimating.
Selective Preference(s):

Masters degree in civil engineering public or business administration or other field closely related to ADOT highway construction contract administration.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or other field closely related to highway construction.

Professional Engineer (P.E.) License for the state of Arizona or proof of eligibility for reciprocity at time of appointment. Two years of experience equivalent to a DT Transportation
Engineer 1.

ATSAA certification as traffic control supervisor or ability to obtain within 12 months.

This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). If considered, PART 2 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment allows a record review and reference check. The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.11 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR and record review/ reference check.
