The Town of Corte Madera, California, is seeking its next Senior Engineer to lead the engineering efforts of the Public Works Department. Due to some new funding resources, this is a brand-new opportunity to see projects come to life quickly and make a significant and visible impact on the community. The Senior Engineer will use their substantial experience and training to perform high-level civil engineering tasks and manage the department’s CIP and grant funding sources. They will work both independently and collaboratively, prioritize the engineering team’s work, and support capital improvement projects. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Public Works and will be instrumental in leading a team of six engineering staff members who oversee an annual Capital Improvement budget with an annual range between $12 - $15 million per year. The ideal candidate is highly responsive to requests with a strong customer service focus and has the emotional intelligence and political savvy to build relationships and manage expectations. THE JOB / IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Senior Engineer, reporting directly to the Public Works Director, serves as the most seasoned engineer in the Department working collaboratively with all staff to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. With a strong and stable-funded CIP, the Senior Engineer has the exciting opportunity to see projects come to life quickly and make a significant and visible impact to the community. The Senior Engineer will use their substantial experience and training to perform high-level civil engineering tasks and manage the DPW’s CIP and grant-funding sources. They will balance independent and collaborative work, while supporting CIP initiatives and prioritizing the engineering team’s work. This leader will develop and supervise junior engineering staff and foster a purposeful and enriching work culture. They will collaborate across divisions and departments within the Town, as well as effectively communicate, support, and build relationships with the Town committees, commissions, boards, elected officials, regional partners, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
 
The ideal candidate has a strong customer service focus and the emotional intelligence to build relationships and manage expectations. This position will have an in-depth understanding of safety practices and applicable civil engineering laws, rules, tools, and systems. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of CIP budgets and the management of grants to ensure timely and successful project delivery. As a visionary and fearless leader, the Senior Engineer will also have the political acumen to advocate on behalf of the Town with PG&E for this fire prone community.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
  • Six (6) years of responsible civil engineering experience; supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or related field.
  • Processional Civil Engineering Certification in the State of California is required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Drivers’ License.
 
SALARY AND BENEFITS:  An annual salary of $140,736 – $170,628 DOE/DOQ and an attractive benefits package
