Design – Engineering Project Manager
 
The selected candidate will manage complex capital improvement projects (i.e. bridges, roads, and drainage) through design and procurement phases and will have a strong working knowledge of roadway and stormwater design practices, working with a team of professionals to successfully deliver engineering projects within schedule and budget.

Essential Functions

 

  • Oversees engineering designs for various types of transportation and stormwater projects with support from project engineers and/or consultants. Reviews for conformance with established engineering practices and local/state regulations.
  • Manages the development of project contract documents, including construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates. Ensures compliance with all procurement regulations and contract provisions required for local and state/federal funding.
  • Provides administrative control such as budgetary, scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance for all projects.
  • Prepares, approves, evaluates, and maintains related contract information such as correspondence, reports, project invoices, contract modifications, proposals, and/or budgets.
  • Coordinates project implementation by interacting with various internal and external agencies and makes recommendations for engineering and project success.
  • Researches and negotiates techniques for project planning, accomplishment, and problem resolution.
  • Assists with state/federal grant applications.
  • Investigates and responds to inquiries and concerns for contractors, staff, the general public, and other organizational agencies.
  • Attends or conducts staff meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training and classes, seminars, or conferences to improve professional skills.
  • May serve on committees to represent the City of Chesapeake.
