The City of Corona has an exciting opportunity to join our Planning and Development Department as an Associate Engineer.  This position is assigned to the Development Services division and will be primarily responsible for the review and permitting of discretionary and ministerial development projects. A typical day for this position includes completing plan reviews within a set timeframe, coordination with other City departments and divisions, responding to emails, multiple in-person meetings, writing staff reports, and preparing project conditions of approval. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator possessing broad and varied experience in Civil Engineering design and review. Education/Training/Experience:   

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, mechanical engineering. 
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering or structural engineering experience. 

Skills/Abilities
  • Prepare, analyze, understand, and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents, and determine conformance with applicable laws and standards.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures, and standards relevant to work performed.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate technical reports, drawings, maps, notes, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Effectively represent the department and the City in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, and regulatory organizations and individuals.

THE ORGANIZATION
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members.  Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term.  The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
 
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
 
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2023 is $ 340.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 177.6 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 850 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
