Senior Controls Engineer
Full-Time
Columbia, SC
Compensation DOE: Up to $120K

 
Senior Controls Engineer Purpose:
 Manage facility control systems including network and infrastructure.
  • Design manufacturing automation and process control systems, including software and graphical solutions.
  • Maintain all manufacturing controls infrastructure, including networks, hardware software, and improvements/changes.
  • Design of process control systems including hardware, software and graphical human interaction systems. And lead the work of specialist systems integrators if required. This may involve extended hours with the plants and business and ultimately accepting huge responsibility for the project deliverables. Of work may occur during plant production outages.
  • Create new control software from concept agreed with the engineering group. HMI graphics and control code. Modify existing code as required.
  • Managing facility control systems including networking and infrastructure, hardware and software. This will involve working with Rockwell Automation and Emerson directly along with local consultants.
  • Leading contractors and maintenance people or technicians to support our manufacturing organization. Can be viewed as teaching or guiding role or an at the call face troubleshooting role.
  • Generate new controls and instrumentation concepts including control strategies to improve plant performance, repeatability, and reliability.
  • Investigate and implement new technologies to improve our processes and controls.
  • Solve day to day production and maintenance issues as necessary. Typical examples can be control system issues that maintenance cannot resolve or operations requiring a process change that moves our process controls outside the current boundaries. Provide support on site as required.
  • Improve the security of our currently installed base system and plan for the future upgrades to keep our systems as current as practically possible.
 Senior Controls Engineer Experience:
  • 10+ Years of factory automation systems design, including networking, software design and creation, HMI systems implementation and support.
  • 10+ Years in a continuous manufacturing environment, preferably food or drink manufacturing, supporting and leading manufacturing and maintenance activities.
  • Experienced in hardened industrial Ethernet networking on large scale implementations.
  • Experienced in managing and dealing with specialist consultants, technicians, and contractors.
 Senior Controls Engineer Skills:
  • Minimum BSEE, preferably master’s level education.
  • Must be creative, flexible, and self-motivated.
 Knowledge:
  • Rockwell Automation Plant PAX system
  • Emerson Delta V DCS system
  • Knowledgeable of all applicable local and international electrical codes
