Career Transitions is engaged to identify a skilled Controls Engineer for a southwest Michigan manufacturer that has been a staple in the community for 50 years.  They are a niche manufacturer and market leader that offers a robust variety of components and assemblies that serves a variety of industries.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative team player who enjoys working collaboratively with the manufacturing engineering and maintenance teams, using their expertise in troubleshooting, logic, programming, controls, electrical systems and wiring to continuously improve processes and deliver quality services.

Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a safe, accident-free environment through a thorough understanding of electrical hazards.
  • Design and implement electronic infrastructure to support manufacturing processes as defined by manufacturing engineers.
  • Define and maintain BOMs for necessary components (PLC, HMI, terminals, contacts, wiring, etc.)
  • Create and maintain PLC (Allen-Bradley) & HMI programming, wiring diagrams, critical spare lists for all processes.
  • Support and mentor maintenance department in maintaining high levels of equipment uptime and proper troubleshooting techniques.
  • Provide hands-on assistance and training to maintenance teams to support CNC, automation, assembly, and test equipment.
  • Review ongoing processes for uptime and capability improvements.
  • Create and maintain documentation to support existing processes.
  • Identify and implement ways to improve efficiency and reliability in existing processes.
Controls Engineer Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field, electrical engineering preferred. Minimum 3 years of manufacturing industry experience.
  • Candidate must have expertise with PLC and HMI programming, troubleshooting, ladder logic, control systems design, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, assembly processes, CNC drives and controllers (Fanuc), robot automation (Fanuc), and various vision systems.
  • Design experience with CAD systems.
  • AutoCad and Solid Works preferred along with experience with Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Candidate should have the ability to both lead and follow in a team environment and be adaptable to change and to lead change as needed. 
  • Candidate should have organization skills to prioritize multiple ongoing tasks to meet required due dates and be self-motivated and can work independently.
