JOB SUMMARY:
Clemson University's General Engineering Department is looking for an Assistant Director - General Engineering Advising Center to fulfill the following duties:
- Assists the Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the advising center.
- Provide leadership in advising best practices, training, and professional development.
- Advise and support undergraduate students to aid in timely and successful degree progress.
- Assesses student needs and identifies and refers students to resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Course Selection:
Advises and counsels students on course selection and registration procedures. Advising case load will be assigned based on the needs of the department. Develops and maintains confidential records.
30% - Essential - Center Management:
Assists the Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the advising center. Provides leadership, and support to Center academic advisors, serving as subject matter expert regarding academic advising best practices. Assists in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of academic advisors for the Center. Plans and implements advisor training for current and new advisors. Serves as supervisor for the Graduate Student position and any student workers. Develops and maintains advising resources for incoming and continuing students. Creates and implements a communication plan to promote advising resources and initiatives to students.
20% - Essential - Academic Progress:
Advises and counsels students on academic progress. Advises and counsels students on University and departmental policies, engagement opportunities, and personal development. Identifies student issues and refers students to other campus resources as needed. Serves as a key resource to faculty and administrative officers regarding student information and policies.
10% - Essential - Service:
Participates in departmental, College, and University wide initiatives related to advising and student success by providing staff support, knowledge, and expertise to ensure a successful program. Assists with College recruiting and engagement programming as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree
Work Experience - Experience in student services programs.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree In higher education, student affairs, counseling, or closely related field.
Work Experience - 3-5+ Years of advising experience with some supervisory experience or experience leading a program with in Higher Education.

Acts as Lead - Acts as a Lead by guiding the work of others who perform essentially the same work.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree In higher education, student affairs, counseling, or closely related field.
Work Experience - 3-5+ Years of advising experience with some supervisory experience or experience leading a program with in Higher Education.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
5% - Overnight Travel
WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hours: 37.5;
Expected Salary Range: ($ 50,000 - $ 55,000)
