Job Description:
California Department of Water Resources's Northern Region Office is looking for an Engineer, Water Resources with a can-do attitude to join its team of professionals dedicated to supporting programs and partners across Northern California. If you are a service-minded, hardworking professional interested in joining a dynamic and fast-paced multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping the communities of Northern California with their water resources needs, please apply today! Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources, the successful candidate will perform engineering calculations for water supply studies to maximize the beneficial usages of water such as fish and wildlife enhancement, river restoration, agricultural usage, and urban usage. Using engineering methodology and sound judgment, find solutions to work problems and prepare project plans and designs relating to fish passage problems and river restoration projects. Perform topographic and bathymetry surveying using survey equipment.
The specific essential duties include:
Perform engineering calculations, develop hydrologic and hydraulic numeric models and other related software to study and evaluate the beneficial usages of water such as fish and wildlife enhancement, river restoration, agricultural usage, and urban use.
Using engineering methods and sound judgment, find viable solutions to problems and prepare project plans (using drafting software and GIS) and designs for fluvial fisheries and riparian habitat enhancement projects.
Perform topographic and bathymetry surveying using survey equipment. This work may include loading and unloading miscellaneous equipment and may involve strenuous physical activities such as climbing steep terrain and carrying equipment to work sites. Travel to work sites may require the use of an automobile on public roadways and/or uneven terrain. Trailering and launching a boat as well as attaching an outboard motor may be necessary. This work requires the ability to swim and stay afloat in the case of a capsized boat.
Coordinate work products and schedules with other agencies (DFG, USFWS, USBR, USCE) and organizations (CWA, DU) as needed. Prepare technical correspondence to co-workers, cooperating agencies, and to the public. Work with technicians and student assistants.
