Monash University invites applications for the role of Professor and Head of Department Materials Science and Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering.

Monash Engineering is a multi-disciplinary Faculty involved in internationally relevant engineering developments. They have established transnational education collaborations with many leading institutions. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is an international, research-active department with modern facilities and a broad education offering in materials science and engineering. Although their work spans the entire materials field, Materials Science and Engineering is placed at the cutting edge where understanding of, and control over material behaviour is the key to advances in many fields such as biomedical engineering and biotechnology, energy and sustainability, nanotechnology, structural and functional materials, and manufacturing, including additive manufacturing and 3d printing.

The Head of Department Materials Science and Engineering will be expected to bring deep personal commitment and reputation in both education and research. Eminently credible, they will nurture the ongoing, international profile of research whilst simultaneously leading innovative pedagogical activities to ensure that the students’ University experience is of the highest standard and globally recognisable.

The University is particularly keen to hear from candidates who have an outstanding track record in research and demonstrated experience in academic, strategic, and operational management. We are seeking an exceptional visionary leader with a passion for research and education in the discipline of materials science and engineering. They will bring extensive experience in people management and the ability to navigate through complex relationships. They will also have the ability to work independently as well as part of a strong and collaborative Faculty team.
