Job Description:

NCASI is seeking a professional for its Canadian Mill Environment & Sustainability Program team. As the Senior Research Scientist, Canadian Operations, you will be conducting work on projects that will directly contribute to addressing the environmental information needs of the forest products industry. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive literature reviews and database searches; reviewing technical, government, and peer-reviewed manuscripts; and undertaking systematic process and environmental data analyses. Working closely with other NCASI staff, primarily the Canadian Operation’s Principal Research Scientist, you will ensure timely completion of program projects related to air and water quality, environmental release characterization, beneficial use of mill residuals, chemicals management, and sustainability of relevance to the forest products sector. This position will also involve significant interaction with industry trade associations, government at provincial and federal levels, research organizations, and academia.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in chemical engineering, or closely related field, preferably with professional or post-doctoral experience in the forest sector on research and/or technical analyses related to environmental and/or sustainability priorities; or master’s degree in chemical engineering, or closely related field, with at least 5 years experience in the forest sector on research and/or technical analyses related to environmental and/or sustainability priorities. Ph.D. strongly preferred. Familiarity with the theory and principles of environmental science or engineering, and proficiency in data analysis are required. 
 
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
  • Ability to analyze and interpret process manufacturing and/or environmental data using a methodical approach
  • Knowledge of pulp and paper and/or wood products manufacturing operations
  • Ability to navigate the Canadian environmental regulatory landscape
  • Ability to work with relational databases
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and programming languages, such as R and/or Python
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Organized self-starter with the ability to work independently and proactively
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple work priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and, ideally, with facility in French
 
The position is in NCASI’s office in Montreal, QC. Potential for some work from home. Some travel will be required.
