Position Summary:
As a Civil Engineer (P.Eng), you will take on the pivotal role of project lead under the supervision of the Manager for Engineering, Reliability and Projects. This role entails a full spectrum of technical responsibilities, including interpreting, organizing, and executing pivotal projects that contribute to the ongoing safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of pulp and paper manufacturing operations.
Your responsibilities will be situated within the Engineering, Reliability & Projects department, providing essential technical support to the manufacturing facility within a matrix engineering organization. The successful applicant is expected to prioritize health and safety in everyday operations, leading by example in promoting a healthy and safe workplace culture.
The role is located near Sudbury, Ontario, offering the perfect balance of urban living and outdoor adventures in Northeastern Ontario.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering:
- Prepare and manage a range of engineering documents such as Design Documents, Technical Specifications, Tendering Documents, Analysis Reports, and Standards.
- Oversee the development of construction specifications and detailed designs.
- Conduct in-depth investigations through feasibility studies, economic analyses, and environmental impact studies.
- Design new structures, make modifications to existing systems, and perform load assessments on current structures.
Project Management:
- Act as the Owner's Engineer, overseeing the detailed design and construction of EPCM Firms engaged.
- Develop and execute project plans, provide accurate cost estimates, and prepare contract documents.
- Manage budgets, resources, and deadlines; acquire and compile quotes, and act as the project or site supervisor for construction work.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, professional and construction contractors.
Education:
- A minimum of a four (4) year university degree in Civil Engineering or Applied Science.
- Valid and unrestricted P. Eng. certification in the Province of Ontario.
- LEED certification is desirable.
Qualifications:
- Professional registration/licensure as a P.Eng. by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is a requirement.
- A minimum of 5 years of industry experience. Familiarity with civil engineering, particularly building design using steel, masonry, timber, and reinforced concrete.
- Proficient understanding of the National Building Code and National Fire Code, among other relevant codes and standards used in design, construction, and commissioning.
- Proficient with design software such as Autodesk, AutoCAD Civil 3D, 3D scans, photo imaging software, and other civil/structural engineering software.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively.
- Excellent time management skills, able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
