The San Rafael Sanitation District (SRSD), which is a part of the City of San Rafael, is seeking a civil engineer to join its Engineering Department. They will be at one of the Engineering Series levels (Associate, Assistant, or Junior). This role requires strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, as well as a public works background, ideally in sewer and storm drains. The District is continuously working on exciting capital improvement projects (CIP) that all levels of engineers will be able to get their hands on. This is a small, yet highly performing agency where each engineer has the opportunity to lead their own projects through, from start to finish. THE JOB
This engineer will either start at the Junior, Assistant, or Associate level depending on their level of expertise, training, and experience. This role will be involved in the planning, designing, investigating, inspecting, and managing the design and construction of various public works and civil engineering projects. They will carry out professional civil engineering work in the field and office and will regularly make recommendations based on research and perform project management duties.
 
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have a background in public works, ideally involved in sewer and storm drains. They will be an exemplary communicator, as this role involves interacting with the public, taking phone calls, and resolving complaints. Our ideal candidate will have conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills, seeing each challenge as a learning opportunity. The successful candidate will be well-versed in Office Suite and AutoCAD. They will also be an excellent relationship-builder, as this role has frequent interactions with citizens, City staff, and private contractors.
 
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Associate Civil Engineer
    • Registration as a licensed Civil Engineer in California
    • Four years of responsible post-degree engineering experience (a master’s degree shall count for one year of post-degree engineering experience)
  • Assistant Engineer
    • Possession of an EIT
    • Two years of Junior Engineer level experience (a master’s degree shall count for one year of post-degree engineering experience)
