The Challenge
We are looking for a Construction Technician to join our Nashville Resident Engineering team.
In this role you will:
Support senior Technicians and Engineers performing technical duties in areas such as construction, materials testing, design, survey, and/or program/regulatory compliance.
Perform standardized tests.
Maintain accurate record keeping.
Make measurements and calculations of pay quantities to ensure contractor compliance with contract, plans, and specifications and adequate project documentation.
Assist in project-related survey work using surveying equipment including GPS to provide proper lines and grades for the construction of roadways, structures, construction operations.
Independently perform calculations/computations to determine contract pay quantities.
Inspect for compliance and/or code.
Collect, organize, and analyze field and engineering-related data, products, and/or functions.
Place survey stakes.
Operate surveying instruments.
Cut brush.
Run materials tests in accordance with established policy and procedures.
Inspect roadway and bridge projects.
What You Bring
Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
Knowledge of standards/specifications and plan reading experience.
Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
Ability to perform duties without constant supervision.
Ability to read resource materials to determine answers to simple surveying requirements and inspections.
Verbal and written communication skills to get your thoughts across in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.
Computer skills using iPad and general business/engineering software.
A team mentality capable of maintaining a positive working relationship with others.
Good eyesight (glasses are ok!) to use testing instruments and equipment, read plan details, make accurate field measurements, and inspect roadway/structure components.
Agility to climb on bridge substructures/superstructures.
Maturity to exercise limited decision making/judgement and safely perform manual tasks involving the use of bush axes and other tools on steep and rough terrain.
Commitment to leading by example relating to safety and apply our safety program to all operations.
Capable of working safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, and traversing rough, steep, and uneven terrain.
Fitness to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
Ability to safely perform manual tasks involving the use of bush axes, sledgehammers, and other tools.
Notes
You must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
You will be subject to high traffic volumes and extreme temperatures/weather conditions.
Work includes emergency situations, nights, and weekends.
A valid driver’s license is preferred.
Safety toe shoes are required.
Education & Experience
Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
