Salary: $59,700 - $111,600 dependent upon experience

Summary: EarthScope Consortium, Inc. is looking for an Engineer to support our growing and modernizing organization. The Engineer I (EI)/ II (EII) participates in and helps manage multiple individual field projects to assist with the installation and maintenance of geophysical instruments. Under direct supervision, the incumbent will work both independently and, in a group, setting to plan and conduct field operations at sites throughout the United States, polar latitudes, and other international locations. The Engineer possesses working knowledge of the equipment, tools, and techniques used in their project areas and will assist with equipment testing, troubleshooting, and evaluating new technologies as directed. The Engineer contributes reporting and project documentation to ensure that all work conforms to high technical and organizational standards. Engineers are ambassadors who represent EarthScope’s values to scientists, landowners, sponsors, and other community members. The engineer will report to the Engineering Manager or a higher-level engineer within designated project areas.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in engineering, geosciences, or related field.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in engineering, geosciences, or related field.

Requirements for NASA GGN, - Engineer II

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in engineering, geosciences, or related field with three (3) years of experience with geophysical sensors or networks

OR

  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in engineering, geosciences, or related field and one (1) year of field experience with geophysical sensors or networks.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with data quality analysis software.

Descriptions: The GAGE Facility Geodetic Instrumentation team is looking to fill an engineering position at the EarthScope Primary Instrumentation Center. This position will support various GAGE programs. Candidates will be matched to positions based on interest and experience. All positions under direct supervision, will assist with geophysical field projects, which may include coordinating travel logistics, site reconnaissance, site selection, permitting, installation activities, maintenance, network configuration, instrument operation, station communications and/or data flow activities through the application of high precision geodetic technologies.

These positions will also identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to geophysical instrument hardware, firmware, software, and data communications.

Prepare equipment and tools for field deployment, which includes testing systems. Work is overseen by the Engineering Manager and guided by other technical experts. Maintain tools and vehicles used for field deployment.

Assist with warehouse organization for field work preparation.

Draft appropriate documentation of field activities and metadata using established tools, protocols, and databases as maintained by the organization.

Develop and maintain good relationships with community members, suppliers, landowners, and business partners within areas of expertise and project assignments.

Preferred Skills:

NASA Global GNSS Network (GGN)

The successful NASA GGN EI-T1/EII-T1 candidate will provide support for field and warehouse operations for the unique components of the NASA GGN, including inventory management, configuration, testing, and shipping of the following: remote Linux-based computer systems, satellite-based data communications equipment, LAN/VPN switches and hubs, GNSS receivers and antennas, surface meteorological instruments, expendable materials (e.g., batteries and solar panels), and other miscellaneous items that are used to support GPS/GNSS station maintenance across the NASA GGN. In addition to inventory management outlined above, the successful NASA GGN EI-T1/EII-T1 candidate will also be responsible for routine GGN State of Health (SOH) and data flow monitoring, metadata management, and remote trouble shooting in coordination with other remote and/or hybrid GAGE Facility NASA GGN staff and local station operators. Some fieldwork may be required as directed. Since the NASA GGN has the bulk of its stations located outside the US, the successful NASA GGN EI-T1/EII-T1 candidate must have a valid passport, appropriate visas, vaccinations, etc. to travel Internationally. Specific duties for NASA GGN O&M will be directed by the NASA GGN Operations Manager.

Engineering support to NASA Global GNSS Network (GGN) includes management, operation, maintenance and upgrading of 61 GNSS field stations around the world, and installation of new stations when required. Tasks include basic GNSS station Operations and Maintenance (O&M), budget management, hardware and computer configuration and shipping, coordination with local station operators, and field visits. Staff that support the NASA GGN work in close coordination with NASA GGN Program Manager at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, technical support staff from NASA contractors, and NASA HQ Program Directors in Washington, DC.
