The Job:
The role of a Building Mechanical Engineer is to engage in all phases of a project from programming to construction document development to construction administration and commissioning. This role is essential for developing technical abilities within the group. They are a representative of the group’s technical services both internally and externally to clients and are also responsible to coordinate with the Mechanical Lead related to projects, training, and quality control. Resource Reporting:
  • The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Mechanical Lead
  • Coordinate with the Mechanical Lead to ensure a strong program for personnel development
  • Assist with new employee “on-boarding” and mentorship following Salas O’Brien’s and the office’s policy
                                
Technical Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The successful candidate must be highly motivated, capable of working with a team or in a self-directed manner, and must be familiar with the full engineering cycle including, but not limited to the following:
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings and other client-facing meetings
  • Clearly communicate design recommendations to our clients, project teams, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary
  • Work independently or as part of a team on projects with other technical staff to develop the mechanical systems designs that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated and that the quality assurance measures have been followed
  • Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements
  • Able to work within a project team to efficiently produce project construction documents for building mechanical systems
  • Able to implement and utilize project-specific models and drawing standards
  • Participate in mechanical department standard development and maintenance
  • Be lead mechanical engineer on assigned projects and coordinate work of junior engineers
  • Assist the work of other engineers and designers as a design Engineer to generate project deliverables
  • Perform quality audit before submittal of any deliverable. Support and enforce PCIS’s QC standards

Required Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering required
  • A professional engineering license in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Plumbing, Fire Protection, and facility HVAC 
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Demonstrate a high standard of ethics, professionalism, client focus, customer service, ownership, and accountability
  • Short term domestic travel possible
  • Preferred applicants would have a working knowledge of Energy Modeling Software (DOE-2, eQUEST, HAP, Trane Trace 3D, or other), and have a working knowledge of BIM strategies using Revit
