We are searching for a solid professional to join our inTEST family as a Mechanical Engineer featured at our Fremont, CA facility and reporting to our Director of Engineering. This critical role supports the EMS business and is a part of the Electronic Test division. This division is on a trajectory of growth and provides an opportunity to support a global organization.

 

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Staff Engineer is responsible for designing test head positioners, docking hardware, and other electromechanical interfaces using knowledge of test heads and related handlers and probers, as well as specific customer requirements. The position formulates and effectively utilizes partnerships across the engineering disciplines to deliver value-added solutions to our customer critical challenges and reflects the business objectives of all stakeholders.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

Designs industrial/manufacturing equipment, processing, and positioning systems, taking projects all the way from concept brainstorming, through detailed design, prototype fabrication and testing, to production release.

Interprets and maintains technical drawings, manuals, and installation procedures for existing products, and develops same for new products.

Works directly with customers, sales and marketing to ensure an understanding of product requirements.

Researches, designs, evaluates, and constructs prototypes/production samples that meet and or exceeds customer requirements.

Effectively executes work product on schedule and in-line with project plans.

Consults with Operations to select manufacturing methods, suppliers, and solve other critical fabrication issues.

Develops, coordinates, or monitors all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, supplier selection or operation of product designs.

Lead technicians/CAD designers to complete aspects of your design.

Investigates equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommends remedial actions.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong business etiquette regarding verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.

Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Experience performing stress and deflection analysis using FEA and other methods.

Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis.

Experience with motorized and/or automated systems

Knowledge of strengths of materials

Knowledge of drafting standards and practices

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; required

Minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience; preferred

Knowledge of machining capabilities with metals and plastics; preferred

SolidWorks or related 3D design experience; required

Microsoft Office Suite; required

ERP experience; preferred

Document management system experience; preferred

Occasional travel (less than 10%); required

 

Role can be hybrid once onboarding requirements are completed at an acceptable level as determined by your manager.
