ABOUT THE POSITION

Junior Engineer: Under supervision, learn to perform professional field and office engineering work in connection with the design and construction of roads, bridges, drainage and other public works facilities; review and recommend conditions on various land use activities; and perform other work as required.

Assistant Engineer: Under general supervision, perform professional field and office engineering work in connection with the design and construction of roads, bridges, drainage and other public works facilities; serve as resident engineer on construction projects; perform engineering review and place conditions on various land use maps and improvement plans; and perform other related work as required.

Associate Engineer: Under direction, to perform professional field and office engineering work in connection with the design and construction of roads, bridges, drainage and other public works facilities; to perform engineering review and place conditions on various land use maps and plans; to serve as resident engineer on construction projects; and to perform other related work as required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be familiar with civil engineering and road design software and have experience with general civil engineering design projects.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Junior Engineer: Assists in preparing plans and specifications for the construction, alteration and maintenance of a wide variety of civil engineering facilities, including roads, drainage, bridges and buildings; assists in designing road improvements and prepares plans, profiles, cross-sections and other details, including quantity estimates; may act as resident inspector on minor construction projects; does responsible technical research and prepares reports; inspects construction work in progress for adherence to specifications; assists in preparation of progress payments, contract change orders, progress reports and other related documents; assists in reviewing and conditioning various maps and plans concerning land use activities; does other engineering work in a trainee and learning capacity, including working with subprofessional engineers.

Assistant Engineer: Prepares engineering designs on facilities and structures for roads, drainage, bridges, buildings and other public works projects; designs road improvements and prepares plans, profiles, cross sections and other details, quantity estimates and horizontal and vertical alignments in curve computations; acts as resident engineer on construction projects; inspects construction projects in progress to secure compliance with plans and specifications; compiles project records, prepares progress reports, expenditure reports, contract change orders, progress pay estimates, and final project reports; does responsible technical research; performs engineering review and places conditions on records of surveys, parcel and subdivision maps and use permits and other land use documents and plans; may supervise lower level engineering staff on assigned projects.

Associate Engineer: Prepares plans and specifications for the construction, alteration and maintenance of a wide variety of civil engineering facilities including roads, drainage, bridges and buildings; designs road improvements and prepares plans, profiles, cross-sections and other details, quantity estimates; acts as resident engineer on complex construction projects; inspects major construction projects in progress to secure compliance with plans and specifications; reviews plans prepared by private consultants to ensure their conformance with engineering principles and County requirements; reviews records of surveys, parcel and subdivision maps and use permits and other land use documents for approval of conditions; compiles project records, prepares progress reports, expenditure reports, contract change orders, progress pay estimates, and final project reports; does responsible technical research; may supervise lower level engineering staff and act for the section head.
