Job Description:

Junior Environmental Scientist

Our client is seeking an Junior Environmental Scientist to oversee field operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to procedures. The successful candidate will work independently and with contractors to conduct monitoring, sampling, and site investigations at industrial and public infrastructure properties. Taking prime responsibility for project execution the successful candidate will:

  • Collect soil samples during drilling, test pitting, and excavation activities.
  • Perform Designated and Hazardous Substance Surveys.
  • Conduct monitoring and groundwater sampling using various equipment.
  • Supervise drillers and contractors.
  • Operate GPS, data loggers, survey levels, and combustible gas meters.
  • Prepare field documentation, including job safety analysis, project reports, and chain-of-custody forms.
  • Collaborate with project coordinators to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.
  • Travel occasionally, work weekends/evenings, and withstand adverse weather conditions.
  • Carry out additional tasks as needed.

Junior Environmental Scientist Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with environmental site assessment field technician duties.
  • Ideally, 2-3 years of experience as a Field Technician.
  • Academic and practical knowledge of soil classification, drilling methods, and groundwater sampling.
  • Experience with Designated Substance Surveys.
  • Additional expertise in ecological surveys, air/noise assessments, GIS, water/wastewater sampling, etc., is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, in teams, and self-sufficiently in the field.
  • Physical endurance for standing, walking on rough surfaces, lifting, bending, and adverse weather.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.

Junior Environmental Scientist Education:

    • Degree or Diploma in civil, environmental, chemical, geological engineering, or related fields.
    • Pursuit of Professional Designation (e.g., professional engineer or geologist) in Ontario is desirable.
