Join our team as an Airport Specialist (Transportation Specialist) at the entry, senior or advanced level. The Airport Engineering Section guides the planning, design, and construction of safe, efficient airport facilities in a collaborative and dynamic team environment. In this role, you will be able to develop or expand your aviation knowledge while being an advocate for airports throughout Wisconsin! This position will be headquartered at the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison, WI.

Position Summary
This position serves as a project specialist for airport improvement projects. This includes providing guidance to airport owners on topics related to airport planning and programming; coordinate airport development activities; and processing airport design and improvement projects through the planning, funding, design, and construction phases. This position will work both independently as well as collaborating with coworkers, the FAA, and airport owners.

Salary Information
The entry level is in schedule-range 14-15 with a hourly rate between $21.00-$24.23. The senior level is in schedule-range 14-14 with a hourly rate between $25.00-$30.50. The advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with a hourly rate between $27.00-$37.00 depending on qualifications. All three levels include excellent benefits. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details
WisDOT does not sponsor work visas.  Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications
A minimally qualified candidate will have each of the following:

  • Experience communicating with a diverse group of stakeholders which may include customers, management, business partners, etc.
  • Experience interpreting, analyzing, and applying complex information such as laws, rules, site plan drawings, project specifications, or policies
  • Training or experience leading or managing project teams (experience could be gained in a professional or educational setting.)

In addition, a well-qualified candidate will have training or professional experience in state or federal transportation programs.

A qualified candidate at the senior level will have experience managing a small project independently including managing the project budget. In addition, at the senior level, candidates will have acted as a liaison between different members of a project team.

A qualified candidate at the advanced level will have experience leading a team in project management including managing the budget and communication for the project.
