Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is currently seeking a motivated individual with excellent organization and communication skills to act as the State’s Specifications Engineer. The State Specification Engineer is responsible to manage the agency’s revision processes for our core construction contract documents which include the Standard Specifications, Statewide General Special Provisions (GSPs), and Regional GSPs. The person in this position will coordinate with other engineers and subject matter experts statewide to edit and update existing language and develop new language within these documents. In addition to manage the content of these documents, this person will be responsible to distribute them for Statewide and FHWA review, resolve comments, and make necessary revisions resulting from the review by our partners. Individuals who have knowledge of construction practices for a wide range of highway construction elements will be able to utilize their own knowledge and experience to enhance our contract documents, and they will also have the assistance of subject matter experts that they can rely upon when necessary. This position serves as a senior-level technical program specialist and is responsible for representing the Headquarters Construction Office by providing interpretation, background, and guidance for GSPs and Standard Specifications statewide. Persons in this position will have the opportunity to develop their own processes to coordinate their work and the review of these documents by others.
