Summary:
 
The Electrical Engineer will act as a subject matter expert in the trouble shooting process for Siemens PLC drives located on STS Cranes. This position will guide union mechanics in the trouble shooting process to keep cranes productive in supporting a 24-hour operation in the loading and unloading of container ships. The position objective is to increase the skill set of current mechanics in the trouble shooting and maintenance of STS Cranes with the result of decreased down time and increased crane productivity.
 
Essential Duties:
 
• As a subject matter expert, mentors' management team and union workforce in Crane maintenance.
• Ensure that breakdowns are corrected promptly, and follow-up work is undertaken; process developed and documented for training purpose.
• Builds a collaborative relationship with union mechanics, business agents, customer, vendors and PCMC management team.
• Creates, develops, and executes a training process and program that meets the needs of PCMC and ILWU.
• Shares knowledge and tracks mechanics knowledge and gaps and works to close gaps to increase productivity.
• Develops a plan to ensures that the maintenance and repair of cranes are done in a timely and cost-effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment.
• Oversees the performance, maintenance and repair of all cranes and its supporting equipment and parts (electrical, electronic, and mechanical).
• Ensure that the equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable working condition, in accordance with planned preventive maintenance program and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.
• Liaise with planning for the scheduling of maintenance program and to provide feedback with a goal to continual improvement.
• Recommends and develops improvements in crane maintenance processes.
• Assists with recommendation on part and equipment ordering.
• Participates and supports all PCMC safety procedures and ensures procedures are followed by all.
• Ensures knowledge and adherence of contracts including union CBA, customer, and vendors.
• All other duties and projects assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
 
Requirements:

• Four (4) year college degree in electrical engineering, with a solid foundation in mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering.
• Ten (10) years of experience in Siemens PLC drive knowledge strongly preferred.
• Comprehensive knowledge of PLC circuitry and circuit board control cards systems.
• Ten (10) years of Crane maintenance section in any ports, construction, or manufacturing plants.
• Requires specific technical knowledge of maintenance and repair of STS, RTG's, Conventional Cranes, Mobile Harbor Cranes.
• Experienced in all phases of troubleshooting and repair of Siemens, TMEIC, Fuji and ABB drives.
• Strong computer and controls skills required.
• Requires excellent problem-solving skills, especially technical problems of a highly complex nature.
• Requires ability to use computerized software system(s), specifically those designed for maintenance and repair of cranes.
• Ability to document process and teach others technical complex information.
• Requires good verbal and written communications skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and a strong internal customer focus.
• Exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work environment.
