Job Description:

JT4 is hiring a Network Engineer for their Edwards AFB located in California.

JT4 provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. We develop and maintain realistic integrated test and training environments, and prepare our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.

RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position requires experience with different types of telecommunications and networking equipment across associated transport technologies. The Network Administrator V will be designing, developing, and maintaining networks. Therefore, the position requires a strong understanding of telecommunication systems used to transmit voice, data and video across digital and fiber optic WAN/LAN infrastructure is also necessary.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Apply technical knowledge of telecommunication networking and transport equipment to solve complex problems utilizing diagrams, schematics, test equipment, and engineering data.
  • Work as a team member on projects and tasks providing computer hardware and operating system solutions for the team or task.
  • Perform the daily operational support on various networks to include system security, access, configuration, backups and restores.
  • Specifies network requirements, monitors performance, troubleshoots networking hardware and ensures system is working properly according to specifications and parameters.
  • Install, configure and maintain various types of digital and optical transport equipment. Common equipment includes switches, routers, and OTN on CISCO & Brocade.
  • Utilize network management software and diagnostic tools to diagnose, configure and review configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues on OTN, switches and routers.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Will be asked to make functional the initiatives established by management and will coordinate with other organizations as affected by upgrades, capabilities, policy and procedures. Each employee must read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to their job.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting and use of a computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing, and editing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness. The incumbent must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors Degree in associated discipline from an accredited academic institution or equivalent experience through technical training, completion of a recognized certification program, or experience.
  • Requires at least 3-5 years of experience in computer system related areas of expertise.
  • CCNA highly desired.
  • Must possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in computer science, graphics, and information systems.
  • Must have specific experience in the maintenance of Operating Systems and support applications, in a centralized and distributed server environment.
  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must qualify for and maintain a government security clearance and possess a valid, state issued driver's license.
Desired Experience:
  • Experience with Structured Cabling (copper and fiber optic)
  • Be able to demonstrate experience with the following protocols: OSPF, BGP, VRRP, Spanning Tree (802.1W), NAT/PAT
  • Experience with Visio
  • Experience with WireShark
  • The ideal candidate would also have experience with: NX OS, VxLAN, QoS, Multicast, Scripting, SolarWinds
Desired Certifications / Knowledge:
  • Current CompTIA Security + certification (or ability to obtain within 180 days of hire)
  • Possess a strong understanding of Layer 2/3 networking principles
 
The expected pay range for this position is $90K to $145K
