Job Summary

We have an immediate opening for a licensed Residential/ Construction Engineer, with 5+ years’ experience to work in the Existing Buildings Renovation / Multi-Family residential consulting / design industry in our Trevose, PA location.  Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate and manage internal kick-off, milestone and closeout meetings for projects.
  • Work closely with teams to understand the scope of work, budget, goals, deliverables, and timeline to ensure project success.
  • Review drawings, plans and specifications. Perform all kinds of inspections. Supervise testing and interpret results.
  • Verify schedules, ensure adherence to project plans and timelines to be met by internal and external resources.
  • Review and approve contractor change orders, applications for payment, and RFIs.
  • Conduct on-site assessments and observe construction in-progress.
  • Ensure construction in progress is in accordance with construction documents.
  • Perform and/or oversee field testing.
  • Maintain organized records, files, drawings, or other data essential to the project and ensure they are complete and filed appropriately.
  • Prepare written correspondence with clients, contractors, community representatives, etc.
  • Conduct investigative field evaluations of civil/structural and/or building envelope issues and prepare evaluation reports. Produce field or evaluation reports.
  • Prepare bid documents, including drawings and technical specifications.
  • Communicate with prospective bidders/contractors to accurately portray work scopes and bid documents.
  • Analyze bids and prepare bid tabulations for competitive bidding processes.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and rough-order-of-magnitude cost estimates.
  • Design various civil/structural, and/or building envelope details and plans.
  • Attend business development functions such as marketing events, business dinners/events, and cross marketing with other offices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform design calculations with the use of design software and perform hand calculations as necessary.
  • Act as a professional of record, which involves signing/stamping of construction documents and preparation of municipal/government forms and/or permit applications.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Architecture or Engineering

Work Experience

  • Five-years’ or more experience in residential construction, framing and deck design
  • Work with existing buildings required.
  • Residential multi-family construction experience a must.

Licenses and Certifications

  • PE/AIA in PA preferred. Would consider someone close to taking their exam with 3-4 years' experience.
  • OSHA 10 hour certified preferred.   
  • Must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted valid Driver’s License.

Skills

  • Personal drive, commitment, discipline; the desire to own your project from start to finish.
  • Understanding of structural analysis and stability.
  • Proficiency with 2-D structural analysis modeling software (such as Enercalc, Tekla Tedds, RISA 2-D, or other simple analysis softwares of equivalent function).
  • Familiarity with 3-D structural analysis modeling software and Finite Element Analysis a plus (such as SAP2000, RISA 3-D, RAM Elements, ETABS, or equivalent softwares of similar function).
  • Ability to perform hand calculations as needed to verify software outputs or to design structural elements and repairs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other equivalent drafting software.
  • Familiarity with AIA standard contract documents and forms.
  • Familiarity with CSI MasterSpec specifications and specification writing.
  • Experience with building codes, industry standards, and guidelines (such as the ICC Family of model codes, ASCE, ACI, AISC, NDS, ICRI, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication / presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to attend meetings and events, as needed.
  • Ability to work individually or with team members and work collaboratively with other disciplines.
  • Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local areas as workload and projects require.
  • Ability to understand construction documents
  • Professional report writing skills required.
  • Ability to review code requirements required. 
  • Construction observation skills required.
  • Ability to:
    • Lift/ Carry up to 40 lbs. (ladders, hammers, harness equipment, etc.).
    • Safely work at heights (fall protection & safety equipment provided).
    • Work on suspended scaffolding on the exterior of the building high above ground (secured and protected)
    • Safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment.
