The Electronics Failure Analysis Group that is part of the Structural Materials (SM) Division at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) is seeking a highly motivated and talented engineer or physicist to join a fast-paced group with duties to include hand’s-on failure analysis of electrical and electronic components and systems, use of electronic test equipment, and writing technical reports. Additional attributes sought include strong analytical and communication skills, detail-oriented and capable of completing multiple time-sensitive tasks, ability to prioritize workloads, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. This position is located at Wright-Patterson AFB. Applicant must be a US Citizen.



Minimum Qualifications

R1 Minimum Qualifications:
• BS in engineering or physics from nationally-accredited university.
• Documented experience in a laboratory or production environment.
• Ability to read and analyze basic electronic schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with common electrical/electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
• Experience with hand-soldering and using common hand tools.
• Experience with basic troubleshooting of electronic equipment and systems.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to acquire DoD Secret Clearance.

R2 Minimum Qualifications
An R2 must meet all R1 minimum qualifications and have 3 years of directly related experience.
 


Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Experience in electrical/electronic failure analysis techniques.
• Ability to perform basic statistical analysis.
• Ability to design electrical/electronic systems.
• Experience in environmental testing (temperature, vibration, etc.).
• Experience with data acquisition systems and related software (e.g. LabVIEW).
• Experience with analytical tools such as scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS).
• Experience with performing cross-sections of components.
• Experience with electrical power systems (motors, generators, circuit breakers, contactors, programmable loads, etc.).
• Experience with electrical wiring and connectors.
• Familiarization with electronic manufacturing and related hardware (printed circuit board fabrication, soldering, component packages, etc.).
• Familiarization with material properties.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, MATLAB.
• Holds a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance.
