The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Hydraulic and Structural Design Engineer (Structural Engineer Transportation Entry, Senior, or Advanced) vacancy in the Bureau of Structures!

This full-time project-permanent position will be headquartered in Madison, WI.

Position Summary
This position assists with or performs hydrologic, hydraulic, and scour computations necessary for the design of stream crossing bridges to safely pass flood flows and to conform to State and Federal floodplain regulations. This position assists with or provides technical guidance in the areas of hydraulics, hydrology, scour, and preparation of preliminary bridge design and plans to Regional Office and Statewide Bureau personnel and engineering consultants. The position communicates with local, state, and federal agencies, public officials, and the public regarding hydrologic, hydraulic, and structure design aspects. This position requires working to extensive technical knowledge in hydrologic, hydraulic and scour methodologies, in addition to working to extensive technical knowledge of bridge design and design specifications, policies, and standards.

Extensive training in the Structures Design Section will be provided to this position. The study of AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications, Wisconsin Bridge Manual and Structures Design Section policy are included at this entry level.

Salary Information
The Entry level is in schedule-range 14-14 with an annual salary of $55,120 to $63,253, plus excellent benefits.

A $2000 sign-on bonus applies to Entry level candidates who do not have any prior permanent full-time state service in the last five years, split between the first paycheck ($1000) and upon completing the 12 month probationary period ($1000).

The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $70,970 to $86,902, plus excellent benefits.

The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $82,597 to $93,350, plus excellent benefits.

A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications
Minimum requirement: Upon hire, candidate must have graduated, or will be graduating by December 2023, from an ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field, OR possess an Engineer in Training (EIT) credential, OR possess a Professional Engineer (PE) credential.

In addition to the above:

To be eligible at the Senior level, candidates must have 3.5 years of professional experience with hydrologic and hydraulic engineering.

To be eligible at the Advanced level, candidates must have a valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
